This perfectly located and very relaxed backpackers commands a stunning view of the Hogsback mountains, part of the Amatola range in South Africa's Eastern Cape Province. It's an ideal place to kick back and relax, or wander through the forest to the nearby waterfalls with beautiful hiking trails starting in the back garden.

The hostel has a comfortable feel to it with a personal touch, and taking it easy is easy. We offer excellent value backpackers accommodation , private double rooms and twin rooms, dormitories and camping. We also offer more comfotable options- En-Suite Double rooms, En-Suite triple rooms and En-Suite twin rooms at backpacker prices.

Striders, our new lodge on the neighbouring property, offers group accommodation in a quiet setting, ensuring a good nights sleep.

The huge garden is well tended and at most times of the year has blooming flowers outlining the views. The camping area is situated in our large forested back garden, which also has our incredibly scary tree house within.

Flora and Fauna is abundant. There is a European feel to the area, with many flowers having been brought over by the early settlers. Amongst many others there are an enormous amount of Arum Lilies and after they have finished the endemic Hogsback Lilies come out. There are species of bamboo and butterfly which are only found on Hogsback's mountains. All sorts of fungi and mushrooms add to the magical feeling. The prescence of delicate mosses and Old Man's Beard indicates extremely pure air, as only a small amount of pollution will kill them. Rare species such as the Cape Parrot (only 300 left in the world) and Samango Monkey are frequently seen.

For serious hikers, Hogsback is also the endpoint of the Amatola Trail, a demanding 106km, 5 day hike. We also offer activities ranging from hour-long forest walks to day hikes and abseiling.

We offer a shuttle service which runs from Hogsback to East London and Chintsa return, every day except Wednesday or Saturday.
